My Word for 2009-THRIVE January 8, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mommyfinds @ 4:24 pm

Over at Tip Junkie, Laurie is hosting a contest that really intrigued me.

So for today’s Talk To Me Tuesday I’d like to challenge you to pick a word that sums up what you want for yourself in 2009?

I had been sort of processing it in the back of my mind for the last few days. I came up with “consistency,” which seems to be the root of all my problems…acne=inconsistent face washing, sometimes naughty kids=inconsistent rule enforcement, messy house=inconsistent tidiness. However, “consistency” just seemed too…clinical? I don’t know. It just didn’t fit.

Then last night, right before I fell asleep, the perfect word just came to me. I love when things come to me in that mental state because they’re usually pretty good.

Thrive

What does it mean to you? I’m going to go a little deep today, which isn’t really my style, but indulge me. When BigMac and I felt ready to start our family, we had a rough go of it. We had 4 miscarriages, between 5-10 weeks along. We also had infertility issues. Then we were blessed with our two girls, 20 months apart. At some point here I discovered I suffer from depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder. Medication has helped to balance this out, but I have often felt that I am merely surviving, just barely hanging on.

My girls are a little older,  I started a new part-time job I love, and in general I feel like I’m doing better all around. So, in 2009 I want to do more than survive, I want to THRIVE!

I want to be more productive. I want to be more consistent. I want to enjoy life, enjoy my family and really dive into life without reservations. I want to THRIVE!

So, how about you? What do you want for yourself in 2009, in a single word? Feel free to join in the conversation over at Tip Junkie or just post in the comments below.

Here’s a Quick Way to Celebrate Your Spouse: From*me Tees

From*me Tees

I discovered From*me Tees this October at the MOPS convention. These t-shirt rock! From*me Tees are t-shirts and other apparel designed to celebrate marriage. How often do I complain and “vent” about my husband? Compare that to how many times I brag on him….not a good math equation.

From*me Tees’ central product are t-shirts that say “My Wife Rocks” or “My Husband Rocks.” They have lots of colors and styles. The women’s run pretty small, so order a size or two larger than normal. They also have really cute kid clothes that say “My Daddy Rocks (mommy was right).”

Special note to brides: Very cute shirts that say “Bride” and “Groom” and My Wife 2b Rocks. What a fantastic way to celebrate you love and commitment to one another!

TheFind

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get a bee in my bonnet. I don’t know if I was reading my favorite magazine, Real Simple, or perhaps watching “What Not to Wear.” Either way, I heard (or read) that THE must-have shoe is the peep-toe ballet flat. Well, I must have them!

I didn’t even know what a peep-toe ballet flat was! I pointed my browser to www.TheFind.comThis website introduces me to new shopping websites and sometimes to great deals! First, put in your search item with as much detail as possible. In my case, “Peep-toe ballet flat.” It then takes you to a screen with some outstanding features. first, you’ll notice the price slider. You can slide to find your price point or just type in your numbers. Click update. Next is my favorite feature: the color selector! I’m a black shoe wearing gal. Don’t forget to click update! This narrows your search to only items in your selected color. With black shoes, this isn’t super impressive, but when looking for a turquoise wrap top, it’s pretty amazing!

You can also search based on brand, store and sale. The results I found were beautiful peep-toe ballet flats by Clark’s, one of my favorite brands of shoes. I always catch onto a trend at the tail end so I was able to snag these shoes for $28 with free shipping from Amazon! Who knew?

Another way to utilized www.TheFind.com is to price shop retailers. You can put in the exact name of the item you are looking for and see how the prices stack up. To be honest, I would prefer to use another site, like www.shop.com. TheFind tends to have a few outdated prices. It’s also difficult to sort by price, my favorite way to shop.

All in all, this is a great way to locate a specific product or to browse by starting with a general term and narrowing from there.

Happy Shopping, Friends!!
